2007: The Bumblebee Project and Clean Water for Malawi
In February 2007, seven applications were received, of whom three were interviewed. The major award of £500 was made to a student undertaking a research MSc in Aeronautical Engineering, contributing towards the costs in designing and building an Micro Aerial Vehicle for entry in an international competition. A smaller award was made to a third year student in Product Design Engineering, £300, towards travelling costs to work on the Chembe Water Project in Malawi.
Awards granted in 2006
In February 2006, seven applications were considered, of whom two were interviewed. One award, of £700, was made to an applicant studying for an MSc in Water Resources Engineering Management, to cover his travel costs to Malawi, where he applied his knowledge to help alleviate the drinking water problem there.
Awards granted in 2005
In 2005 eleven applications were received and a short-list of candidates was interviewed. Two awards were made, the principal one to a student preparing for a Masters degree in Aero Engineering, to support a short term placement at the van Karman Institute in Belgium. A small award was also made to an MEng student in Civil Engineering with Architecture, as support for exceptional course expenses such as materials.
